you should join the microblogging challenge
Okay, this is now officially a public microblogging challenge! +10 different people have signed up for it, 6 of them have started posting already. You should join too!!! I am collecting the list of participants and their starting dates on this sheet (feel free to add yourself!).
The challenge
The challenge: post +100-500 words everyday, for 30 days.
I wrote my first post on August 15th, 2026, so you can also join around Aug 30th if you prefer a 15-day challenge, or Sep 14th if you want to do a 10-day one. Others started later, and more will be joining in (one said 19th, another 21st).
^ That’s 110 words, BTW. 100 words takes <10min, so you can participate with just 10 minutes per day :) 500 words can take around 30 minutes.
Where to post
- Most people have chosen either X/Twitter or Substack, some Github Pages and others their personal sites
- Github Pages allows you to host a site for free with a www.yourname.github.io domain, that you can easily update from your phone or the website (by writing Markdown format)
- Example: Gleb’s microblog
- I created a custom Hugo website hosted on Github so I can edit it directly, and everything was handled by an AI agent
- If you are paying for ChatGPT, Claude, etc, they can handle this stuff for you!
Why post
I wrote about some of my reasons here, I shared a couple of posts from other people on the topic here, but mainly:
- You will leave a trace that will survive way past the usual social media posts, creating a reference for who you are, what you’re into, what you’re up to, and what has been going on in your mind
- Friends, acquaintances and strangers might reach out when something catches their eye
- This will help strengthen your friendships and find/build new ones
- Friends, acquaintances and strangers might reach out when something catches their eye
- It provides a space for reflection, and to “clean up your thoughts”
You can…
- Capture your thoughts / this moment of your life
- Improve retention + understanding of what you learn (à la Feynman technique)
- Raise awareness for the things you care about
- Practice building a new habit
- …and many more!!
What to post
- An interesting conversation or thought you had today
- Something you learned recently
- What’s happening in your life
- Book/movie recommendations
- Your latest (or permanent) special interest
- Anything that you think should get more attention
- Great opportunity to bring more attention to the problems you care about
- Something about your past!
